Job Summary: Montana First Nation is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as the MISD Education Coach. Reporting to the MISD Director, the Education Coach’s priority will be the development and implementation of the Montana First Nation Education Strategy. As a member of the Montana Integrated Service Department, the incumbent will be required to participate in the “One Window Approach to Service Delivery”, and will be responsible for organizing, facilitating and coordinating the delivery of Education services and the Education Strategy. This will include a variety of initiatives to ensure the objectives, responsibilities and timelines required by Chief and Council and Community in Education is achieved.


  • Develop, make recommendations to Chief and Council and Band Administrator, promote and implement a Montana First Nation Education Strategy
  • Liaise, assist, advise and collaborate with the MFN Administration, MISD, and other stakeholders (MESC, WCSD, WPSD, etc.) and other relevant partners
  • Provide counselling, advice and support for all MFN education students, including Case Conferences to support Education and the MISD mandate
  • Required to compile data on MFN Education/Post Secondary students and families, ensuring our students are pursuing and successful in Post Secondary education
  • Organize information sessions and meetings for MFN Students, which will include tours of Post Secondary institutions
  • Will monitor the successful transition of all MFN students from High School into their respective Post Secondary Institution
  • Will participate in the “one window approach” within MISD and must be willing to learn of all other programs under MISD
  • Maintain confidentiality of all students, including Post Secondary information
  • Process applications for Post Secondary Funding, including maintaining accurate filing records for data reporting and tracking of MFN Post Secondary students
  • Meeting with Chief and Council on all Post Secondary related matters (approvals, reports, funding, etc), including preparing notices, agendas and documents for Chief and Council meetings
  • Attend Education related and other meetings related to Education and Post Secondary
  • Maintain an updated library of materials related to Post Secondary Education
  • Maintain accurate filing records for data reporting and tracking of MFN Education students
  • All other duties and responsibilities as it pertains to Education, the Montana Integrated Service
  • Department, and as directed by the MISD Director and/or Band Administrator and/or Chief and Council
  • Working with the BCCE Grant and acting as liaison with Montana First Nation and Wolf Creek School Division


  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Education in Humanities, Administration, Social Work or any other related areas will be preferred
  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma or GED is required
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Driver’s License is required
  • Minimum 2 years related experience in Education, Post Secondary, Coaching, Program and/or Career Planning in a First Nations community
  • Excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills required and must be able of resolving conflicts
  • Experience in a comparable work environment with similar scope, independence, responsibility and authority an asset
  • Must be experienced in working with First Nations and youth
  • Strong organizational skills required with the ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and handle competing priorities; ability to multi task
  • Must be proficient with computers and computer office programs, including key boarding and word processing
  • Ability to Case Conference to provide supports to MFN students as it relates to Education and the MFN Education Strategy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Montana First Nation reserve, membership, language, culture and traditions
  • Knowledge of First Nation issues and Treaties will be an asset
  • Practice the utmost level of professionalism, be reliable and punctual at all times
  • Must be willing to sign and Oath of Confidentiality and non-Disclosure Agreement and must abide with all MFN Policies and Procedures for Employees.
